General Girls Ages 5-18 Recieve FREE Admission/ Meet Loper Athletes

UNK Celebrates National Girls & Women in Sports Day

KEARNEY, NE – The University of Nebraska Kearney Athletic Department will participate in a nationwide celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day this Saturday February 6th with the women's basketball game versus Regis University. As a part of the celebration, local females ages 8 – 13 are encouraged to attend the game at no charge and help celebrate this year's theme, “More Than Just a Game.” Directly following the women's game, all young women will have the opportunity to hear female athletes from each sports team address Life Skill topics and how involvement in athletics has influenced their lives. A women's basketball team signing session will directly follow the event. Game time is set for 1 PM with the men's contest directly following.
National Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) began in 1987 and since that time, has evolved into a day to acknowledge the past and recognize current sport achievements, the positive influence of sport participation and the continuing struggle for equality and access to for women in sports.
Today, all 50 states recognize NGWSD, which is jointly organized by the National Association for Girls and Women in Sports Coalition, The American Association of University Women, the Girl Scouts of the USA, Girls Incorporated, the National Women's Law Center, the Women's Sports Foundation, and the YMCA USA. With a long history of success in women's athletics, the University of Nebraska Kearney continues its commitment to advancing women's sport programs. Today, the Nebraska Kearney athletic department is a broad-based NCAA Division II program that sponsors 18 intercollegiate varsity sports, 9 of which are for women, committed to both the law and the spirit of Title IX and its philosophy of Gender Equity.
