Kearney, Neb. - The Nebraska-Kearney golf teams are currently fourth (women) and ninth (men) at the 2010 RMAC Golf Championships in Arizona.
The women are playing a
36-hole tournament at the par 72 Golf Club of Estrella in Goodyear. In addition to the nine RMAC schools, St. Cloud State is in attendance. The men are in Florence and playing the par 72 Poston Butte G.C. A total of 10 teams are taking par tin the
54-hole tournament.
Hastings sophomore
Sara Wissing, with 13 pars, is currently in second place with a three over 75 (36-39). Glynnis Price of Western New Mexico leads thanks to a one under par 71 (35-36). Team wise, Montana State-Billings leads (320) with Western N.M. second (323) and Mesa State third (328).
UNK is tied with St. Cloud for fourth, each firing a 341. Besides Wissing, Norfolk junior
Nicole Erwin is in 17th place with an 86 (44-42).
On the men's side, the Lopers had rounds of 310 and 316 to be ahead of Adams State (631). Colorado-Colorado Springs is in first (580) with Western N.M. (585) and Fort Lewis (591) close behind.
UNK was ranked fourth two weeks ago in the Central Region rankings but slipped to eighth this week. The team needs to be in the top 10 to make the NCAA Super Regionals in May.
Individually, Omaha senior
Justin Onken is tied for 22nd (154; 72-82) and Kearney junior
Alex Farrell is tied for 30th (156/78-78).
