Kearney, Neb. - The RMAC/Wells Fargo All-Sports Competition Cup is coming back to Nebraska-Kearney.
During the 2009-10 academic year, UNK scored 825 points, edging out Adams State (811.5) and Colorado School of Mines (805) for the top spot. This is the Lopers' 13th time winning the award since joining the conference in 1995.
In 2009-10, UNK won four RMAC regular season titles (football, volleyball, women's tennis and men's outdoor track & field) and finished second in wrestling and women's indoor and outdoor track.
The recent first place finish by men's track helped secure the Competition Cup. By winning its first-ever men's outdoor track title, the Lopers netted 100 points toward the Cup while Adams, which was second, tallied 86 points.
The Lopers will be presented with the RMAC All-Sports Competition Cup during the 2010 RMAC Hall of Fame & Awards Ceremony on Saturday, June 26 at the Colorado Springs Marriott.
UNK won the award 11 straight years (1995-06) and again during the 2007-08 season.
The RMAC All-Sports Competition Cup is awarded to the institution which accumulates the most points over the year based on its teams' outcome in the RMAC's four core sports, along with six wild card sports.
The four core sports are football or men's soccer, men's basketball, women's basketball and volleyball, while the six wild card sports consist of three men's sports and three women's sports, which are designated by that institutions' best finish in those 15 Olympic sports (20 total RMAC sports).
Total RMAC All-Sports Competition Cup points are calculated based on how the teams finish in the RMAC regular season standings. In the scenario where teams do not have regular season standings, conference championship results are used.
