Wissing Tabbed RMAC Preseason Golfer of the Year; Lopers Picked 5th & 8th

Sara Wissing
Kearney, Neb. - The Nebraska-Kearney golf teams have been picked to finish fifth (women) and eighth (men) in the 2010 Preseason RMAC Coaches polls.

The league's head coaches vote on the polls and teams, which were released August 25th. Coaches cannot vote for their own team or golfers.

On the men's side, UNK is tied for eighth with Mesa State (63 points each). The Lopers just missed out on making it back to the NCAA Super Regionals last May, the first phase of the NCAA Championships.

Colorado-Colorado Springs is picked to win the league again (18 points; five first place votes) with Fort Lewis and Western New Mexico tied for second (24 points). They also each received two first place votes.

For the Loper women, Hastings junior Sara Wissing is the women's Preseason Player of the Year.

She became the third-ever UNK golfer to qualify for the NCAA Women's Championships, placing 58th at the 72-hole tourney last May, with her current career stroke average of 81.70 being the second best in school history.

As a team, UNK tallied 28 points in a eight-team race. Mesa State and Western New Mexico each received 10 points to tie for the top spot. Both also received four first place votes.
