2010-11 Cross Country and Track Coaching Staffs Announced

Coach Jeffries
Kearney, Neb. - Nebraska-Kearney head cross country and head track & field coach Brady Bonsall today announced his coaching staff for the upcoming 2010-11 year.

During the cross country season, Marcus Witter will serve as the Lopers volunteer assistant coach. Witter will also work with the distance runners during the track season.

Joining the recently hired Scott Jorgensen on the Loper track & field coaching staff will be Ross Fellows, Johnna Jeffries, Lonnie Polacek and Drew Schmidt.

In track, Bonsall will again coach the long sprints and distance runners with Jorgensen serving as an assistant coach and be in charge of the throwers. A former Loper, Fellows will be an assistant and coach the horizontal jumps, short sprints and be the multi-events coordinator.

Jeffries (high jump and horizontal jumps) and Schmidt (hurdles & pole vault) are the program's new graduate assistant coaches with Polacek (pole vault) joining Witter as a volunteer coach.

Witter was a standout for Kearney High, finishing runner up at both the state cross country and track meets. He then went on to be an NCAA Championships qualifier at Nebraska.

After being an NCAA qualifier in the triple jump four times for the Lopers, and winning two RMAC titles in the event, Fellows moved on to be an assistant coach at Emporia State. For the Hornets, he coached 11 All-Americans and had two athletes compete in this year's U.S. Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Des Moines.

A class valedictorian at Grand Island Senior High, Jeffries not only was an all-conference performer in the high jump at Wyoming but also qualified for the NCAA Midwest Regional in the event as well.

Coming in with coaching experience at the club and high school levels, Schmidt recently graduated from Fort Hays State. For the Tigers, he finished third in the high jump at the 2010 MIAA indoor meet.

Finally, Polacek will work with the Loper pole vaulters for a second straight season. A teacher at Kearney's Horizon Middle School, he has a son (Nate) who is currently on the Nebraska track & field team.
