Soccer Loses 1-0 Again

Kearney, Neb. – New Mexico Highlands freshman Krista Mashak scored a goal at the 61 minute mark to lead the Cowgirls to a 1-0 victory over Nebraska-Kearney Friday afternoon at Ron & Carol Cope Stadium at Foster Field.

The Cowgirls improve to 2-7 (2-4 RMAC) while UNK falls to 1-7-1 (0-4-1 RMAC). The Lopers haven't scored a goal at home since August 27th, a span of 385 minutes. On the year, UNK has now lost four games by a 1-0 score.

Out shot 15-3, including 5-1 in shots on goal, the Lopers were still tied midway though the second half. However, Mashak managed to breakaway from the UNK defense and took a long pass from Susannah Hertz.

UNK goalie Marissa Niday (four saves) came out to try and stop Mashak but the Michigan native managed to score her first collegiate goal.

The Lopers had shot attempts from junior Staci Mark (North Platte) and Katie Larghe (Thornton, Colo.) and freshman Maggie McClure (Omaha Marian)McClure's shot came off a corner kick and was blocked by the HU defense right in front of the goal.
