Soccer Loses 1-0 for 5th Time

Kearney, Neb. – Colorado-Colorado Springs freshman Coury Pitt scored a goal at the 37 minute mark to lead the Mountain Lions to a 1-0 win over Nebraska-Kearney Sunday afternoon at Ron & Carol Cope Stadium at Foster Field.

The second-year Lions improve to 3-4 (2-4 RMAC) while the first-year Lopers drop to 1-8-1 (0-5-1 RMAC).

So far this year, UNK has lost five games by a 1-0 score, four of them at home. Since recording a game winning goal with five minutes left in the season opener, the Lopers haven't scored a goal at Cope Stadium, a span of 485 minutes.

Today's lone goal was similar to the one New Mexico Highlands scored on Friday afternoon to beat UNK 1-0. At about midfield, UCCS sophomore Kristin Preble sent a long pass toward the Lopers goal. Pitt managed to get behind the UNK defense and get the ball past goalie Marissa Niday (10 saves).

UNK recorded five shots on goal, two coming from freshman Maggie McClure (Omaha Marian). Springs' freshman keeper Kayla Miller saw her first collegiate action and earned the win by making five saves.

The Lopers hit the road next weekend, facing RMAC powers Regis and Metro State.
