Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney women's soccer team fell at Northern State, 3-1, Sunday afternoon in Aberdeen, S.D., to complete the Lopers first-ever weekend road trip.
On Friday afternoon at Northern, UNK (1-3) lost to Minnesota State-Moorhead by a 3-2 score. After an opening night win over Wayne State, the Lopers have dropped three straight.
Northern (2-3) fired 31 shots, 13 on goal, at Kearney keepers
Marissa Niday (Fremont) and
Caitlin Golden (Lincoln Southwest). Both keepers had fives saves but Northern managed to find the back of the net three times.
All thee goals came by the 47 minute mark; Golden, one of UNK's starting defenders who also is a keeper, shut out the Wolves for the final 20 minutes.
Kaylee McDonald scored a rebound shot just 1:35 into the contest and then added her second goal of the afternoon right after half time on another rebound effort. Only 20 seconds after McDonald's second goal, Northern scored again as Maggie Fedor made a shot from the left side of the field.
UNK's lone goal came at 46:46 and was actually scored by Northern. The ball went off a Wolves defender and right into Northern's goal.
The Lopers had seven shots on the day with sophomore forward
Morgan Abert (Waupaca, Wisc.) having a team-high four.
UNK begins RMAC play when Colorado Christian visits Thursday night at seven. Earlier this fall, CCU beat Northern, 1-0.
