Kearney, Neb. - The Nebraska-Kearney cross country teams placed second (men) and sixth (women) at the South Dakota State Classic Saturday morning in Brookings, S.D.
In a field of ten, the 16th-ranked Loper men scored
66 points to trail only the host and Division I Jackrabbits (26) while beating D1 North Dakota and four other D2 schools.
The Loper women, still minus top runners

Lauren Stengel due to injury, tallied
170 points to come in ahead of three others, including Northern State and Minnesota State-Moorhead. The Minnesota Golden Gophers, with seven in the top 11, easily placed first with 24 points.
Individually, Ogallala senior
Tanner Fruit ran a 24:56.4 to finish third with Minden junior
Al Sanabria (25:09.6) coming in right behind him in fourth. SDSU had the top two runners in Anthony Bongard (24:46.1) and Mike Krsnak (24:50.8).
Also for UNK, York junior
Zac Groenke placed 13th (25:55.3) and Bellevue sophomore
Simon Falcon was 20th (26:19.4).
Sophomore
Brooke Harris (Dickens) paced the UNK women, running an 18:50.6 to finish 17th. Columbus freshman
Bridgette Schneekloth was just four places behind with a 19:09.3.
Minnesota-Duluth's Morgan Place led the field in a time of 17:06.5.
UNK runs at the Fort Hays State Open in two weeks with Long and Stengel probable for that meet.
