Cross Country Teams Impressive in First Meet of 2010 Season

Kearney, Neb. - The Nebraska-Kearney cross country teams opened the 2010 season by placing fourth (men) and sixth (women) at the Woody Greeno/Nebraska Cross Country Invite Saturday morning in Lincoln.

The Loper men, ranked sixth in the Central Region, won the College Division (21 teams) by tallying 59 points. UNK also had a better average time among its top five then Creighton.

In the University Division, Wyoming (33 points) nipped the Huskers (34) for the team title.

Despite missing top performers Amy Long and Lauren Stengel due to injury, the Loper women placed third out of 20 teams in the College Division and also had a better average time then Creighton.

Nebraska (20) won the University Division with Wyoming second (58).


Individually, Ogallala senior Tanner Fruit finished third (25:07.8) with Minden junior Al Sanabria sixth (25:26.3). The field of 295 men's runners was led by Air Force's Jim Walmsley (24:43.6) and Nebraska's David Adams (24:54.1).

The Loper women were placed by Dickens sophomore Brooke Harris (32nd/23:20.9) and Columbus freshman Bridgette Schneekloth (50th/24:02.36).

The field of 211 was led by Nebraska's Lara Crofford (21:01.4) and Martina Barinova (21:29.7).

UNK runs again October 2nd at the South Dakota State Classic.
