Fruit smashed a 17-year old school record when he won the men's special 3,000 meter run Saturday at the Frank Sevigne Invite at UNL.

His 8:20.70 not only was an NCAA provisional effort but also bested Ivan Ivanov's 8:28.28 school mark, set in January 1996.
