Kevin Bleil

Kevin Bleil

Kevin Bleil joined the Nebraska-Kearney coaching staff in the summer of 2015 and currently serves as quarterbacks coach.

In the spring of 2015, he was promoted to Co-Offensive Coordinator and Passing Game Coordinator under former head coach Josh Lamberson. He shared play calling duties with offensive with line coach Joe Holtzclaw during 2016 while coaching the tight ends and T's.

A former baseball pitcher at the University of Akron (Ohio), Bleil coached the UNK QB's in the spring of 2017. 31619

Every major offensive number for UNK improved from 2015 to 2016. Despite a young set of skill position players, the Lopers went over 40 points in two different games and had five offensive players named All-MIAA.

Among that all-conference group was receiver Malcolm Moore and running back Luke Quinn. Malcolm became the first Loper in a decade to reach 60 catches in a single season while Quinn had 968 all-purpose yards and had a hand in 14 TD's.

At tight send, senior Julian Navarrette was among the team reception leaders for a second straight year.

Bleil saw his tight ends/T's catch 30 balls for 296 yards and two TD's in 2015. In the regular season finale at nationally-ranked Emporia State, he helped call plays and the Lopers had season-highs in points (34) and total offense (564).

23473Last fall, in a new option-based offense, UNK was among the league leaders in fourth down conversion rate (57%), time of possession (31:21) and rushing attempts (467). Four different Lopers ran for over 250 yards with six reaching the end zone. In the air, 15 different players had a catch with starting QB Steve Worthing tossing eight TD's and averaging 140 yards per week.

Previously, Bleil was the wide receivers coach at Division II Texas A & M-Commerce. He also served as a graduate assistant at Central Missouri (2010-11) and Iowa State (2012) and was a student assistant at Akron (2009).

The TAMUC Lions were one of just four D2 programs to have two receivers go over 1,000 yards in 2014. Vernon Johnson finished with a school-record 77 receptions for 1,258 yards and 12 TD’s with Ricky Collins snagging 71 balls for 1,187 yards and a school-record 14 TD’s.

Johnson went on to earn AFCA All-American honors with Collins tabbed first-team All-Lone Star Conference. The pair helped the Lions go 9-3 and earn a win in the Texas Bowl. The duo spent the summer of 2015 in NFL training camps.

At ISU, Bleil worked alongside his father, Bill, who served as the Cyclones assistant head coach and offensive line coach. The Cyclones earned a berth in the 2012 Liberty Bowl, the same year it upset Baylor on national television.

During 2010 and 2011, Bleil worked with former Loper head coach Josh Lamberson at UCM. Coaching the tight ends and working with special teams, he helped the 2011 squad go 8-4 and reach the Kanza Bowl while the 2010 team posted an 11-3 mark and qualified for the NCAA D2 playoffs.

A native of Uniontown, Ohio, Bleil was a pitcher for the Zips but also served as a student assistant football coach in 2009 while working towards a Civil Engineering degree.

He lives in Kearney with his wife, Stephanie, and their daughters, Braelyn and Adley.
