Baseball & Softball Represented on Academic All-District Team

Kearney, Neb. – Nebraska-Kearney baseball players Blake Cover and Leon de Winter and Loper softball player Sara Dunn have been named to their respective sports ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District 7 team.

The award, including a university and college division, is chosen by sports information directors from within the district. Ten different states make up district seven with the college division comprising of NCAA Division II and III schools, along with NAIA institutions.

Cover (Kearney Catholic H.S.) and Dunn (Papillion-LaVista South H.S.) are first-team selections and will move onto the national ballot where they could earn Academic All-American honors. De Winter (The Netherlands) was a second-team choice.

For a Loper baseball team that is 25-30 heading into Thursday's night's RMAC Tournament game vs. New Mexico Highlands, Cover is the Lopers starting third baseman with de Winter being the team's top catcher.
Maintaining a 3.88 cumulative GPA as Business Administration major, Cover is currently batting .386 with six home runs and 46 RBI's. He also leads the team in runs scored (60) and stolen bases (13) and is tied for first in hits (85).

One of three Lopers to appear in all 55 games this spring, de Winter (The Netherlands) is batting .328 with 10 HR's and 51 RBI's. Tied for second on the team in dingers, and second in RBI's, de winter has a 3.79 GPA in Sports Administration.

For a UNK softball team that went 15-28, Dunn batted .367 with five HR's and 18 RBI's. A catcher and designated player, she played in 20 games and led the team with a .735 slugging percentage. Finally, she has a 3.81 GPA as a Family Studies major.
