Kearney, Neb. - Chadron State junior wing Kaitlin Petri drove the length of the court and hit a short jumper as time expired to give the Eagles a
61-60 win over Nebraska-Kearney Tuesday night in Chadron.
Chadron improves to 4-13 (4-6 RMAC) while the Lopers fall to 3-13 (3-7 RMAC). UNK is now in 5th place in the East, one spot behind CSC.
Moment of the Game
In a contest with nine lead changes and five ties, UNK got a made bucket from sophomore wing Vanessa Leeper with nine seconds to go to make it 60-59.
Fourteen seconds earlier, Petri hit two free throws to give Chadron a one point lead. Petri scored Chadron's last six points, including a jumper with 0.5 seconds left to finish the scoring. The winning bucket came after a 30 second Eagles timeout.
UNK led most of the game, including by 11 points (51-40) with 6:56 to go. The Lopers went cold after that, going 3 of 11 from the field and having 3 turnovers.
Each team shot under 40 percent with the Lopers out rebounding CSC 48-39. Chadron did tally 20 of its points off of 19 UNK turnovers.
