No. 24 Mesa Pulls Away from Men's Basketball

Kearney, Neb. - Senior transfer Mike Dominguez scored 28 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to help the 24th-ranked Mesa State men's basketball team beat Nebraska-Kearney, 79-68, Saturday night at the Health & Sports Center.

Mesa (12-1, 6-0 RMAC) wins its third game in a row and beats the Lopers (8-6, 3-3 RMAC) for just the fourth time in 25 all-time meetings.

Moment of the Game
UNK came out on fire, shooting over 70 percent from the field for the first 10 minutes. The Lopers began to cool off but was at 53.8 percent (14 of 26; 6 of 13 3's) at the break to lead 41-38.

A transfer from Division I Florida International, the 6-3 Dominguez had 17 points in the 1st half and Mesa hung around thanks to a 12-0 advantage in points off turnovers.
 
The Mavs took the lead for good when Lance Fit hit a three at the 16:11 mark to break a 44 all tie. UNK did come back to tie things up at 56 but Mesa promptly went on a 10-2 run that featured five points from Aaron Markham and four from Dominguez.

UNK went just 8 of 28 (28.6 pct.) from the floor in the 2nd half and didn't help itself at the line either, making only 15 of 26 shots (57.7 pct.). For the year, Kearney came in making nearly 75 percent of its freebies.

Mesa finished the game with advantages in points off turnovers (19-4) and 2nd chance points (19-10).
