Kearney, Neb. – The 9th ranked University of Nebraska Kearney volleyball team swept Regis on Saturday afternoon, (
-16, -16, -12), in the Health & Sports Center.
UNK improves to 24-4 and 15-1 in conference play while the Rangers fall to 15-10 and to 10-6 in conference play.
On "Senior Day," the Lopers came out hitting on all cylinders to jump out to a 10-4 lead in the first set. The Lopers would let the Rangers get within three points, 13-10, but after that UNK outscored the Rangers 12-6 to win by the set by nine.
In set two, UNK jumped out 5-2, getting three kills by freshman middle hitter
Ellie Pesavento (Omaha Marian), before the Rangers battled back to tie it at five.
The two teams would trade side outs before the Lopers broke an 8-8 tie by going on a 9-4 run to open up a 17-12 lead. Then, three kills from sophomore outside
Ariel Krolikowski (Grand Island) highlighted another Loper out burst as Regis found themselves down 2-0 in the match.
In the third and final set, Regis scored the first two points before UNK came back to tie things at six. The Lopers kept going, finishing the match with a 19-6 run.
Krolikowski led the team with 17 kills with senior middle
Jeri Walkowiak (Grand Island) having 16. Also senior setter
Cola Svec (Elkhorn) dished out 48 assists in her final regular season home match.
UNK goes on the road to close out the regular season at Colorado Mines and Colorado-Colorado Springs next weekend.
