Volleyball Makes Quick Work of Bruins

Kelsey Werner Had 12 Kills in 15 Swings
Kearney, Neb. - Senior Kelsey Werner and freshman Katie Sokowlowski combined for 19 kills and no hitting errors to help the 9th-ranked Nebraska-Kearney volleyball sweep Bellevue (-8, -16, -13) Thursday night at the Health & Sports Center.

The Lopers improve to 17-3 and are now 12-1 at home this fall. The Bruins, ranked 26th in the NAIA, drop to 20-7.

In a match that lasted just over an hour, Bellevue never led and had the match tied only once (one all in the second set). The Bruins got off to a rocky start, having more attack errors (nine) then points scored (eight) in the first set.

Werner (Grand Island) finished with a team-high 12 kills in 15 attempts for a ridiculous .800 attack percentage. Sokowlowski (Kearney Catholic) continues to play well as she recorded seven kills in 11 swings, good for a .636 hitting efficiency.

For the match, the Lopers hit .400 (48-10-96), the third time in 2010 the team has hit higher then .399. Running the offense was senior setter Cola Svec (Elkhorn) who registered 40 assists, seven digs, four aces and a kill.

Omaha junior Maureen Wardian paced Bellevue as she had 11 of her team's 25 kills and hit .625 while blocking four balls on the defensive end.

UNK hosts Colorado Christian tomorrow night at 6:00 p.m. The start time was originally set for 7:00 p.m.
