Kearney, Neb. - The Northern State University women's swimming team won the 200 free relay by three one hundredths of a second to beat Nebraska-Kearney,
114-107, in a dual Friday night at Cushing Pool.
In duals, UNK is now 1-1 with the Wolves improving to 4-1.
The teams were tied at 103 points heading into the 13th and final event of the evening, the 200 freestyle relay. A close race throughout, Northern's Allie Samuels managed to just touch the wall ahead of the Aqualopers'
Krissie Mikulan.
Northern clocked in at 1:49.89 with UNK at 1:49.92.
Overall, the Wolves won eight events, led by freshman Mikaela Waiflein who placed first in both the 400 individual medley (5:13.93) and 500 free (5:40.89).
For UNK, McCook graduate
Kim Ellicott was the only diver in the dual and she scored 18 team points by tallying 186.40 points on the 3-meter board and 153.80 at one meter.
In the pool, Lincoln sophomore
Brianna Nelsen won the 200 free (2:07.02), Kansas freshman
Cassie Bonds placed first in the 50 free (26.20) and South Dakota junior
Heather Glodt took the gold in the 200 breaststroke (2:36.92).
Nelsen was also runner up in the 200 breast (2:41.39) and 200 backstroke (2:30.81).
UNK finishes its fall semester schedule December 3-4 at UNO's Mutual of Omaha Invite.
