Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney women's swimming team scored 207 points to place sixth out of nine schools this past weekend at the Mutual of Omaha Invite.
The two-day meet was hosted by UNO and won by the Mavericks (1,740 points). Others in the field included Division II Minnesota State-Moorhead, the College of St. Mary, Morningside College (Iowa), Division III Simpson College (Iowa), Iowa Central C.C. and club teams from the U. of Colorado and the U. of Kansas.
Four Lopers each placed in the top 18, and scored team points, in at least two individual events. The group included junior
Heather Glodt (Pierre, S.D.), sophomore
Brianna Nelsen (Lincoln Northeast) and true freshmen
Jayne McGovern (Grand Island) and
Cassie Bonds (Wichita, Kan.).
On Friday, McGovern finished ninth in the 1,650 free (20:27.91), the best finish by an Aqualoper in the meet. She then came back the next day to finish 17th in the 500 free (5:55.02).
Nelsen scored in three events, including a 13th place finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:15.26). Glodt (2:27.86) and Nelsen (2:25.76) both placed in the top 18 in the 200 breast with Bonds cracking the top 15 in both the 50 (25.99) and 100 (56.85) free.
Finally, the 400 free relay team finished fourth (1:47.43) to score 40 team points.
UNK competes again January 14th when the College of St. Mary comes to Kearney for a dual.
