Baseball Schedule Changes, to Play in Metrodome this Weekend

Kearney, Neb. - Due to weather and field conditions, the Nebraska-Kearney baseball team will not play Washburn in Topeka, Kans., this weekend. Instead, the 30th-ranked Lopers (5-1) will play four games in the Metrodome, home of the Minnesota Vikings and former home to the Minnesota Twins.

On Saturday night, UNK will face Augustana in a double header starting at 7:00 p.m. Fourteen hours later, the Lopers will face Concordia-St. Paul in a double header beginning at 9:00 a.m.

The Metrodome hosts a series of college baseball games this time of year, thus some contests have to start early in the morning or later at night.

Opening in 1982, over 73 million people have attended evens in the "Homer Dome" the past 28 years. The Metrodome is the only stadium in the world to have hosted the Super Bowl (1992), Major League Baseball's All-Star game (1985), two World Series (1987, 1991) and two NCAA Division One Men's Final Four Basketball Championships (1992, 2001).

The Twins, starting this spring, will play its games in the new Target Field.

In the mid-1900's, the Loper football team ended its season in the Metrodome with games against NSIC (Northern Sun Intercollegiate) members.
