Women’s Basketball Falls to Cougs; Will Face CCU Again

Kearney, Neb. – Senior Juanise Cornell scored 29 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead the Colorado Christian women past Nebraska-Kearney, 77-59, Saturday night at the Health & Sports Center.

Colorado Christian improves to 17-9 (15-4 RMAC) while the Lopers falls to 9-17 (8-11 RMAC). UNK still qualifies for the RMAC Tournament; they are the 4th seed in the East and will play at CCU Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. Central.

The Cougars, who swept the season series with Kearney, win the East Division for the first time in school history.

Moment of the Game
UNK led by six points on two different times, which turned out to be the biggest lead of the night for the Lopers. Christian closed the half on 16-6 run to lead 39-35 at the half.

Sophomore guard Debi Johnson scored all 12 points in the first twenty minutes for UNK.

CCU then started the second half on 10-2 spurt to open up a 12 point cushion. UNK would cut the lead down to eight points twice but could not recover, mainly because of Cornell.

The post scored 19 of her 29 points in the second twenty minutes by going 8 of 10 from the field. Cornell is in her first and only season at CCU as she was a key player for Division I Colorado State the past three years.
