Kearney, Neb. - Senior first baseman Jason Carr hit two home runs to lead the 12th-ranked New Mexico Highlands baseball team to a sweep of Nebraska-Kearney,
11-5 and
7-5, Sunday afternoon at Memorial Field.
The Cowboys (21-6, 11-3 RMAC) took three of the four games this weekend with the Lopers (18-12, 7-8 RMAC). After playing a double header Friday, the teams took yesterday off due to weather and then played two more today.
A 6-5, 225 lbs. native of Washington, Carr hit three homers in Friday's double header. He finished the weekend 8 for 17 (.471) with five homers, 11 RBI's and six runs scored. On the year, Carr is now batting .473 with 10 HR's and 39 RBI's.
In game one, Carr hit a three-run homer in the top of the seventh to highlight a five run inning. UNK had just tied the game at five by scoring three in the fifth and two in the sixth.

In the first inning of game two, Carr hit a three-run homer with two outs to give Highlands a 4-0 lead. Senior Dave Brown, another Washington native, did the rest, limiting UNK to seven hits and two earned runs over the next seven innings.
Also for the 'Pokes, leadoff hitter Christian Garcia went 3 for 4 with two runs and an RBI.

UNK plays at Mesa State next weekend. Because of the Easter holiday, the series will be played Thursday-Saturday.
