Pueblo Sweeps RMAC Series from Baseball

Kearney, Neb. - The Colorado State-Pueblo baseball team swept a three game RMAC series from Nebraska-Kearney this weekend in Pueblo, Colo.

Due to weather and field conditions, the series was moved from Kearney to Pueblo. The Thunderwolves (9-7, 4-2 RMAC) will now visit Kearney in late April.

CSUP hit three homers to win Friday's opener, 6-3, and then took Saturday's double header by scores of 10-4 and 4-0. The Lopers are now 9-7 (2-4 RMAC) on the year.

For the series, junior 1b Andrew Haake (Beatrice) hit .500 with three RBI's and two runs scored. He also had 20 putouts and an assist in the field.

Next, junior 2b Jordan Mitchelhill (Melbourne, Australia) had three hits and 10 putouts and four assists in the field.

In Saturday's first game, the T-Wolves scored two in the first and added three in the sixth and four more in the eighth to win by six. A 14-hit attack was led by number three hitter Jon Proesl and cleanup hitter Zach Hoffman, who went a combined 6 for 9 with seven RBI's and two runs scored.

Haake went 2 for 4 and Mitchelhill had a 2-run single in the setback. Kearney senior Jared Loschen fell to 4-1 on the year by allowing six runs in six innings. He is currently tied with Ken Vergith for the most wins by a Loper (22).

Joaquin Montano (six innings) and Cole Stephens (one inning) combined on a two-hitter in the night cap. Montano fanned seven and walked just one in improving to 3-2 on the season.

Scotia junior Todd Stachura was the tough luck loser as he went the distance, giving up just four runs on eight hits.

On Friday, Proesl and Hoffman hit back-to-back homers in the first. After a two-run shot by Haake tied it, leadoff hitter Mark Sayas led off the third with a solo shot to give Pueblo the lead for good.

Weather permitting, UNK plays at Nebraska on Wednesday. Regis is then scheduled to come to Memorial Field for an RMAC series.
