Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney softball team split two games with Colorado School of Mines Sunday afternoon at Dryden Park.
UNK (9-20, 8-11 RMAC) won the second,
6-2, while the Orediggers (16-19, 12-14 RMAC) won the first by scoring five unearned runs in the top of the 11th innings,
7-2.
Mines jumped out to two run lead in the top half of the sixth in game one when 3b Molly Thiebaut (3 for 5, 2 RBI's) hit her fourth homer of the series.
UNK would come back to score two runs in the bottom of the inning to tie things up. Senior C
Sara Dunn (Papillion) got the inning started off with a single to center. After the next two Lopers reached on fielder's choice, senior CF
Alissa Larsen (Lincoln) brought home pinch runner

Jessie Thomas (Yutan) reached first on an infield single, allowing sophomore 2b
Ali Seberger (Lexington) to score the second run.
Both teams would leave the bases loaded in the 10th inning before Mines erupted in the 11th, scoring five runs – all unearned – on five hits. The big blow was a two-run double from SS Sarah Van Lingen (2 for 5).
Freshman
Becky Dunn (Papillion) went the distance for UNK, allowing 11 hits over 11 innings. She fanned six in allowing only two earned runs.
In game two, Mines grabbed a 2-0 by the third after scoring unearned runs in the first and third innings. UNK would then take control, scoring two runs in each of the next three innings.
A two-run double from senior SS
Kelsey Smith (Blair) tied things up in the fourth and RBI singles from freshman OF
Taylor Fernau (Blair) and Thomas (2 for 3) gave UNK a 4-2 lead in the fifth. Finally, two more singles in the sixth brought home two insurance runs.
McCook sophomore
Kirstie Hiatt got the win, throwing a five-hit complete game with two K's.
UNK goes on the road next weekend playing games against CSU-Pueblo and Adams State.
