Kearney, Neb. - Senior
Jared Loschen threw seven strong innings and junior first baseman
Andrew Haake had another big day at the plate to lead Nebraska-Kearney to a
10-3 win over Metro State Frtiday night at Memorial Field.
The first of a four game series, UNK improves to 21-14 (10-10 RMAC) while the Roadrunners fall to 15-15 (12-7 RMAC).
The three hour contest featured plenty of action as the teams combined for 13 runs, 24 hits, six errors and 28 runners left on base (15 for Metro & 13 for UNK).
And in the Metro fourth, a ground ball took a wicked hop and hit Loper senior SS
Blake Cover right below the right eye. Cover (1 for 3) would come out of the game about an inning later; he didn't play the rest of the weekend.
UNK led from start to finish with the first four batters reaching safely in the bottom of the first. Three would cross home plate but Metro tightened things up in the fifth as, after the Cover play, Bradshaw Perry belted his seventh homer of the year to make it just a 4-3 Kearney lead.
However, UNK scored five times over the next two innings to regain the momentum. Loschen (7-3), with seven K's on the night, held the 'Runners scoreless in five of the 7.1 innings he worked.
Haake, who hit two Grand Slams in last Friday night's win at Mesa State, went 3 for 4 with two runs scored from the clean up spot. Also, junior 3b
Luke Valerius and junior LF Brian Chritz each had two RBI's.
The two teams will play a double header tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.
