Baseball Places Two on Coaches All-Region Team

Kearney, Neb. - Nebraska-Kearney senior baseball players Blake Cover and Jared Loschen were recently named to the 2010 Rawlings/ABCA (American Baseball Coaches Association) All-Central Region team.

Head coaches from the RMAC and NSIC (Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) vote on the make up of the squad, consisting of 32-members.

Both Cover (Kearney Catholic H.S.) and Loschen (Kearney H.S.) were voted to the second-team.

UNK's starting shortstop in 2010, Cover led the team in six offensive categories, including average (.407), hits (81), slugging percentage (.588) and stolen bases (13). He also recorded a team-best 154 assists in the field.

Loschen tied UNK's single season wins record (nine) as he went 9-5 with a 4.83 ERA in 98.2 innings pitched. Becoming the Lopers all-time leader in wins, innings and starts this spring, Loschen also fanned a team-best 76 batters in 2010.

New Mexico Highlands 1b Jason Carr was named the Region Player of the Year with Blake Schwartz of Minnesota State being the Pitcher of the Year.

Minnesota State won the Central Regional over the weekend and will represent the region at the Division II World Series in Cary, N.C.
