Baseball Assistant Now NAIA Head Coach

Kearney, Neb. - Nebraska-Kearney assistant head baseball coach Adam Neisius is now the head coach at NAIA Friends University in Wichita, Kans.

Involved in all aspects of the program, Neisius has been with the Lopers the past two years, helping the team record 62 wins and reach the 2010 NCAA Division II Tournament.

"We are sad to see Coach Neisius leave, but we are very excited for him and this very deserving
Friends
opportunity. He has had a tremendous impact on this program and I am sure he will do a great job at Friends University," said UNK head coach Damon Day.

Prior to UNK, Neisius spent 10 seasons (1998-2008) as head baseball coach at NAIA Dakota Wesleyan University (Mitchell, S.D.). During his 10 year stint, Neisius led his team to two regular season titles and two consecutive conference tournament titles. In 2005, he was named NAIA Region IV Coach of the Year and Great Plains Athletic Coach of the Year.  Neisius is currently the winningest coach at DWU history (263 wins)

As a player, Neisius began his collegiate career at RMAC-member Mesa State where he competed for two years before transferring to Dakota Wesleyan where he finished his collegiate career. Neisius then spent two years in the Texas-Louisiana Professional Baseball League with the Colorado Wolverines.

"I want to thank President Green and Mr. Zimmerman for the opportunity to join the Friends University family; I am looking forward to working with everyone at the University as well as the Wichita baseball community.  My number one priority will be to make sure each student-athlete in the baseball program is successful in the classroom, on the field, and in the community,” said Neisius.

UNK will name a replacement for Neisius later this summer. The Lopers went 36-20 this past spring, winning the Plains Division of the RMAC and earning its third all-time NCAA berth.
