UNK (3-1, 2-0 RMAC) is riding a three-game win streak, a 12-game RMAC win streak and a six-game win streak over the Grizzlies (1-3, 0-2 RMAC).
Under second-year head coach Marty Heaton, an always defensive minded ASC squad opened 2010 with an impressive 34-10 win over Division II independent Dixie State (Utah).
After a setback to FCS member Northern Colorado, the Grizzlies gave both Colorado State-Pueblo and Chadron State tough battles before losing each game in the second half.
Over the last two weeks, Adams has been out scored 45-14 after halftime. The Grizzlies also mustered just 20 points and 370 yards, combined, against CSUP and CSC.
Sophomore QB Travis Eggleston was the 2009 Co-RMAC Freshman Offensive Player of the Year with junior MLB Rocco DeLorenzo and senior corner Bryant Williams being the Grizzlies selected to the 2010 Preseason All-RMAC team.
UNK won a rare defensive battle, 13-6, last Saturday at Western State. It was the Lopers lowest scoring game in eight years and while the defense would like to continue its production, the UNK offense hopes to ramp it up a bit.
The Lopers “D” is aiming to hold an opponent under 10 points for a third straight week, something that has happened only three times the past 30 years (2006, 1982 and 1980).
On the other side of the ball, a banged up UNK offense hopes to get back on track after scoring TD's on its first two drives of a 31-9 win over Mesa State on September 18th. In the last seven quarters, the Lopers have had four drives that have resulted in points.
Individually, junior RB
Rustin Dring (Kearney) ranks second in the RMAC in rushing (107.7 avg.) with junior QB
Jake Spitzlberger (Lakewood, Colo.) third in total offense at 234 yards per game.
Versatile senior
Brendan Liess (McCook), out since the 1st quarter of the first game, should return to the lineup this week and gives the Lopers another offensive weapon.
