Kearney, Neb. - The Morningside College women's swimming team placed first and second in three events to edge Nebraska-Kearney,
108-97, Saturday afternoon in Kearney.
The Aqualopers are now 2-2 on the year while the Mustangs improve to 2-0.
UNK won six events, five individual and one relay, but Morningside picked up 41 points by going 1-2 in the 200 medley relay, 100 backstroke and 100 breaststroke. MC also went 2-3 in four of the six events the Aqualopers won.
In the closest event of the dual, the Mustangs won the 200 individual medley -- a swing of five points -- as Cora Kugler came in at 2:22.50 with junior
Heather Glodt (Pierre, S.D.) literally right behind her at 2:22.51.
Kansas freshman
Cassie Bonds led UNK, winning the 50 free (26:24) and 100 fly (1:04.96) with Glodt taking the gold in the 100 free (59.65). The pair also swam on the 200 free team that won in a time of 1:48.39, nearly eight seconds better than Morningside.
Also winning an individual event was Lincoln sophomore
Brianna Nelsen (200 free/2:07.29) and Grand Island freshman
Jayne McGovern (1,000 free/12:17.39).
UNK is at the Grinnell College Invite next weekend before finishing the regular season January 29th with a home dual vs. UNO.
