Kearney, Neb. - The 6th-ranked Nebraska-Kearney volleyball had another statement win this weekend as the Lopers swept No. 10 Metro State (
-16, -22, -13) Saturday afternoon in Denver.
The Lopers (26-1, 15-1 RMAC), riding a 13 match win streak, swept No. 25 Regis on Friday. With its third straight setback to UNK, Metro drops to 20-5 (12-4 RMAC).
Sophomore middle
Haley Lake (Lincoln SE) continues her fine play as she smashed home a career-high 19 kills and did so in efficient fashion. Hitting well over .400 on the year, Lake had those 19 kills in just 30 attempts with two errors (.567 attack pct.).
This marks the seventh time in the last nine matches Lake has had double digits in kills. She also provided five digs and a team-best five blocks.
Next to Lake, sophomore
Ellie Pesavento (Omaha Marian) had eight kills in 16 attempts (.500 attack pct.) to go along with three blocks. UNK finished the night with 43 kills and a .248 hitting efficiency; the Lopers also had 9.0 blocks and 65 digs.
Metro saw RMAC Preseason Player of the Year Bri Morley have 14 kills but the rest of the 'Runners combined for only 17. Hitting .085 as a team, Metro also had eight service errors.
Kearney controlled the first and third sets but the second featured 10 ties and five lead changes. A block from Pesavento and junior setter
Jenna Rouzee (GI Northwest) made it 21-19 Lopers and forced Metro to call a time out.
After the teams traded service errors, Lake had two kills to give UNK a 24-21 lead.
The schedule doesn't get any easier for UNK as No. 13 Wayne State visits Tuesday night.
