Kearney, Neb. - The 6th-ranked Nebraska-Kearney volleyball team trailed just once in a sweep of 25th-ranked Regis
(-17, -16, -16) Tuesday night in an RMAC Tournament first round match at the Health & Sports Center.
UNK (30-1) will host the semifinals and finals this weekend. The semis will be Friday at 5:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; the Lopers will play the late match against either Adams State or CSU-Pueblo.
The finals are slated for 7:00 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are available at www.pickmytickets.com.
The Lopers, who've now beaten the Rangers 30 straight times dating back to 1999, hit .385 on the night and also recorded nine more digs, 51-42.
UNK jumped out to leads of 15-9 and 21-12 in the first set and 7-1 and 14-2 in the second set. The only time Regis led in the match was 1-0 in the third set.
Individually, junior outside
Ariel Krolikowski (Grand Island) smashed home a match-high 16 kills in 30 attempts (.467 attack pct.) while also providing 11 digs on defense.
Next, sophomore outside
Ashley Leitner (Lincoln SW) had 13 kills and a .379 hitting efficiency with sophomore middle
Haley Lake (Lincoln SE) at 12 kills, three digs and a .476 attack percentage.
Not surprisingly, all three of these players were named to the 2011 All-RMAC team earlier on Tuesday.
Finally for the Lopers, Ewing junior
Abbey Schueth helped replace an injured
Katie Sokolowski on the right side as she supplied two blocks, one kill and an assist. Sokolowski is done for the season after suffering a knee injury this past Saturday.
Regis was paced by DePaul transfer Kyndell Highlands (10 kills & four digs). Also, Grand Island native Jessica Wojcik came in at seven digs and five kills.
