Kearney, Neb. – Nebraska-Kearney senior football players
Stephen Goodin and
Arthur Hobbs have been named to the 2011 Daktronics Division II All-American team.
This team is voted upon by sports information directors from around the country. A student-athlete has to be named first-team all-region to be considered for All-American honors.
Hobbs (San Diego, Calif.) was voted to the first-team and Goodin (Hastings H.S.), a left tackle, made the second-team.
In 2011, Hobbs picked off six passes for a Division II-leading 295 yards. A two-year Loper, he also had 54 tackles (36 solo), 18 pass break ups and two fumble recoveries.
Against Northeastern State in September, he set a D2 record for most interception return yards in a game (214) when he picked off three passes with two of those coming back for scores.
Hobbs is the first Loper corner or safety to be named All-American at the Division II level.
Goodin, a three-year starter, moved into the starting left tackle spot this season after missing 2010 to injury. He was the Lopers left guard in 2008 and 2009.
Blocking for Harlon Hill candidate
Jake Spitzlberger (1,077 rushing yards), Goodin and the Loper line also allowed only 15 sacks all season. UNK finished 2011 among the national leaders in points (39.5) and yards (519).
Six other RMAC players were chosen in linebacker Lee Meisner (2nd) and kicker Kyle Major (2nd) of Colorado State-Pueblo, punter Taylor Accardi (1st) of Colorado School of Mines, defensive lineman Connor Wright (1st) of Colorado Mesa and New Mexico Highlands linebacker Jordan Campbell (2nd).
The Ron Lenz Offensive Player of the Year is senior running back Jonas Randolph of Mars Hill (N.C) with the Ron Lenz Defensive Player of the Year being senior linebacker Jamarkus Gaskins of Albany State (Ga.).
