Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska Kearney women's swimming and diving team scored 165 points to place 8th at the 2011 RMAC Championships in Grand Junction, Colo.
The
three-day event was hosted by Mesa State College at the El Pomar Natatorium.
Incarnate Word of Texas claimed their second consecutive women's title by scoring 896 points with Grand Canyon University being the runner up with 849.5 points. UIW men's team, just like their women counterparts, claim its second title (1,025.5 points).
UIW, Minnesota State-Moorhead, Northern State, Grand Canyon (Ariz.) and Texas-Permian Basin are all affiliate members of the RMAC in swimming & diving.
In the pool for the Aqualopers, junior
Heather Glodt (Pierre, S.D.) scored 24 team points in three individual events. She finished 7th in the 200 breaststroke (2:36.26), 9th in 100 breaststroke (1:12.44) and 14th in 100 butterfly (1:03.12).
Next, UNK scored 31 team points in the 100 and 200 breaststroke. Besides Glodt, sophomores
Brianna Nelsen (Lincoln) swam the 100 (1:13.88) and 200 (2:39.70) to place 15th and 11th,
Rita Hood (O'Neill) swam the 100 in 1:17.08 to finish 16th and junior
Ariel Christensen (Alma) finished 16th in the 200 (3:00.44).
Freshman
Jayne McGovern (Grand Island ) cracked the Loper all-time top ten in the 1,650 free (9th-19:58.64),1,000 free (10th- 11:54.93) and Nelsen is now tied for 8th in 100 breaststroke while freshman
Cassie Bonds (Wichita, Kan.) and Glodt improved their times in the 100 breaststroke.
In diving, junior
Kim Ellicott (Bartley) tallied 11 points with a 10th place finish on the 3-meter board (296.40 points) and was also 13th on the 1-meter board (255.25 pts.).
