Kearney, Neb. – Nebraska Kearney Men's basketball finishes the regular season on a five game winning streak, with
94-72, win against Chadron State College, Saturday night at the Health & Sports Center.
Nebraska Kearney improves to 13-13 and 11-11 in the RMAC, while Chadron State drops to 6-20 and 4-18 in the RMAC. Nebraska Kearney won the earlier meeting between the two schools on January 8th in Chadron.
UNK started the game on 11-2 scoring run that would cover nearly the first five minutes of the half, leading the way with six of the eleven points was freshmen forward
Mike Dentlinger (Omaha).
Chadron would come back to cut Kearney's lead to five points, three different times during the next two minutes that would be all the closer they would get rest of the game.
The Lopers extended the lead to as high as 18 points with 5:32 left till halftime on a three pointer by senior
Michael McLeod to lead 34-18 and lead by 12 at the half.
Kearney would control the second twenty minutes from the start to finish and maintain their double digits lead.
Freshmen's
Matt Hutsell (Loveland, Colo.) and
Joel Hegarty (Arvada, Colo.), each scored their first career points in a Loper uniform, while
Kendal Glidden (Benkelman) score a season high five points; first points since Colorado Mines on January 17th.
Chadron State was lead by Kevin McClelland with 19 points, Ray Mitchell chipped in 13 points and five rebounds, finally Moala Tautuaa and Sammy Hines would each score nine points.
Dentlinger scored a team high 18 points and pulled down five boards, junior
Max Froehlich (Pierce) and
Beau Baker (Denver, Colo.) each scored 10 points, combined 8-11 shooting from the floor, and finally McLeod finished with nine points and four rebounds.
Nebraska Kearney goes to Colorado Mines on Tuesday night at 8:30 p.m. in the first round of the RMAC Shootout.
