Baseball Sweeps Series from Rangers

Kearney, Neb. –University of Nebraska Kearney baseball team swept a four game weekend series against Regis University over the weekend in Denver, Colo.

The Lopers record now stands at 14-5 and 10-2 in the RMAC, while the Rangers 9-10 and 7-5 in the RMAC.

Friday night UNK would lead 3-1, after two and half innings, then RU would score six or there seven runs in the bottom of the third inning on two-two run singles and two run homer to lead 6-3 after three innings.

The Lopers would add nine runs over the next three innings to lead 12-6. In the five run fourth inning senior Andrew Haake (Beatrice) would hit a three run homer to right center, after getting back to back RBI's from senior Jordan Mitchelhill (Melbourne, Australia), who singled up the middle scoring fellow senior Daren Grace (Blair), after Mitchelhill single senior Brandon Buchanan (Fort Collins, Colo.) would hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield bringing home Luke Valerius (Lakewood, Colo.).

Patrick Oliver (Broomfield, Colo.) would add to the scoring in the top of the sixth by hitting a three run triple down the right field line, scoring the other run of the inning was sophomore Chandler Klute (Kearney) on a single hit back up the middle scoring Buchanan from second base.

Starting pitcher senior Todd Stachura (Scotia) would go eight innings, striking out seven Rangers in getting 12-7 win.

UNK's bats would just pick up where they left off from Friday night's game by scoring at least one run in all but two innings of the seven inning double header on Saturday in game one.

Klute got Nebraska Kearney on the board first with a single to leftfield scoring Mitchelhill from second. Regis would score there only runs of the game in the bottom of the first, thanks to RBI's by Zach Blakeley and Ty Lain.

Kearney would add one run in the third, three runs in the fourth and fifth, and two runs in the sixth inning to cruise to 10-2 win.

Senior Roy Metter pitched a complete game (seven innings) by striking out six and walking one Ranger batter.

In the second game of the double header the six run second inning and four run fourth inning provided to be enough in getting 13-9 win.

Senior outfielder Brian Chritz (Arvada, Colo.) three run double to left centerfield was be the big blow in the second inning for the Loper bats. Rangers would come back to score four runs in the bottom of the second to trim the Loper lead to two runs.

Jason Trulin (Blair) would hit a triple to right center scoring Klute and Trulin would score on a throwing error by the centerfielder and then Felix Segovia (Las Vegas, NV) would add the other two run by hitting his second homer of the year to leftfield.

Relief pitcher Mike Loseke (Arvada, Colo.) would pick of the win by pitching two and two thirds of inning in relief of starting pitcher freshman Eathan Poulsen (Longmont, Colo.).

In the final game of the series Nebraska Kearney would limit Regis to one run on five hits in getting 9-1 win, Sunday afternoon.

The Lopers would score two runs in the first, sixth, seventh, and ninth innings plus adding a single run in the third inning.

Junior pitcher Mike Nowak (Omaha) would get the win by going seven innings, allowing the lone run on two hits and striking out three.

The Lopers take on Colorado Mines this weekend at Memorial Park.
