Loper Baseball Wins Three against Thunderwolves

Kearney, Neb. –Nationally ranked University of Nebraska-Kearney baseball team got three key win on the road against Colorado State University-Pueblo at Rawlings Field.

UNK improves to 17-5 and 13-2 in the RMAC, while CSUP falls to 15-12 and 9-8 in the RMAC.

Senior pitcher Todd Stachura (Scotia) pitched a complete game on Friday in 3-1 win, striking out seven batters and allowing one run on nine hits.

The Lopers would score two runs in the fourth inning when senior outfielder Jason Trulin (Blair) hit his third homerun to left centerfield, scoring sophomore Chandler Klute (Kearney), who got on by wild pitch on dropped third strike and advanced to second on a throwing error by Kyle Wager.

Nebraska-Kearney would add one more run in the seventh on an error by Cole Stephens off the bat of Jordan Mitchelhill (Melbourne, Australia) to score G.J. Henry (Denver, Colo.) from third. Pueblo scored their lone run on a single by Wager to left centerfield to score Joe Manders.

On Saturday the Lopers and Thunderwolves would split doubleheader, the Thunderwolves winning game one, 13-11 and the Lopers taking the nightcap by the score of 14-10.

CSU-Pueblo got 12 run over three innings, including six run fourth inning. UNK would score two runs in the first innings, and then would score six runs to lead 8-1 after two and half innings.

Trulin went 3-4 with one RBI and two runs scored in game one to be the one of two Lopers that went 3-4 in game one.

Pueblo would score three runs to lead after one inning of play. Kearney would score two runs in the following half inning to be down by one run.

UNK would take its first lead of the game in the third inning on a two run double up the middle scoring senior outfielder Patrick Oliver (Broomfield, Colo.) and Mitchelhill, however the lead was short lived when CSUP tied the game in there half of the third with one run.

The Lopers would outscore the Thunderwolves 10-6 over the final four innings, which included seven run sixth inning to give the Lopers 14-10 win.

In the series finale Nebraska-Kearney would use five run eighth inning, giving Nebraska-Kearney another weekend series win.

Kearney scored two run in the second inning, the first run was scored on a single by Brian Chritz (Arvada, Colo.) scoring Felix Segovia (Las Vegas, NV) from third and the other run scored on a sac fly by Mitchelhill, scoring Mike Nowak (Omaha).

Nebraska-Kearney scored lone runs in fifth, sixth, and seventh innings to tie the game at 5. In the eighth inning Nebraska-Kearney got five runs to lead and getting the win 10-5.

Klute and Nowak each would have 2 runs batted in and Segovia had the other RBI in the inning.

Andrew Haake (Beatrice), Luke Valerius (Lakewood, Colo.) and Klute all went 2-5 in the game.

Lopers are back in action Tuesday against Nebraska Omaha and this weekend versus Mesa State.
