Metro State takes Two from Lopers

Kearney, Neb. – Metro State College swept a doubleheader from the University of Nebraska-Kearney 14-1 and 17-5, Saturday afternoon at Dryden Park.

Metro State (32-13, 27-10 RMAC), sent nine batters to the plate in the first and second innings of game one and racing out to 14-0 lead before Nebraska-Kearney could plate a run.

The 'Runners third batter Jennessa Tesone went 3-4 with four RBI's, including a home run in the four run first inning and a double in the next inning.

Nebraska-Kearney's (15-28, 15-20 RMAC), lone run was scored on a homer hit by junior shortstop Ali Seberger (Lexington), who had two of the three hits; the other hit was by junior centerfielder Austin Wilson (McCook) on a first inning single back up the middle.

In game two, the Roadrunners sent 11 batters to the dish in the first innings and jumping out to 5-0 lead after half inning of play.

UNK would score five runs in their half of the first inning, getting back to back hits from freshman leftfielder Whitney Frederick (Blair) and Wilson on a bunt back to the pitcher.

After a fly out by senior catcher Cassie Keck (Blair), fellow senior DP Jessie Thomas (Yutan), hit a single and advancing to third on fielding error by centerfielder scoring Frederick and Wilson.

Next, Seberger would single to leftfield scoring Thomas to trim the 'Runner lead to two runs. Freshman third basemen Sarah Rome (Fort Calhoun) hit a two run homer to left centerfield, scoring junior right fielder Allie Frost (Valley), who reach on fielder choice on the previous play.

Metro State would go on to score 12 runs over the next four innings of play to win 17-5, Tesone went 4-5 with 4 RBI's and three home runs.

With losing both games today the Lopers have now been eliminated from the RMAC softball tournament which will be held next weekend in Golden, Colo., with Colorado Mines host the tournament.

The series concludes with doubleheader at 11 a.m.
