Baseball Faces Highlands in RMAC First Round

Kearney, Neb. - The Nebraska-Kearney baseball team will play New Mexico Highlands Wednesday in Grand Junction, Colo., in the first round of the 2011 RMAC Tournament. 

The double elimination event runs Wednesday through Saturday (May 11-14) with Sunday available for play if the weather is poor. The tournament winner automatically qualifies for the NCAA Championships the following week. The complete bracket is available HERE.

Top-seeded UNK (32-15) will play the sixth-seeded Cowboys (25-24) at 1:00 p.m. Central. During the regular season, the Lopers split at weekend series (2-2) at Highlands but won three of four over the 'Pokes at Memorial Field.

With a win Wednesday, UNK will play Thursday at 4:30 p.m. Central against the loser of Metro State/Colorado State-Pueblo, the third and fourth seeds in the tournament.

With a loss to Highlands, the Lopers would play Thursday at 1:00 p.m. Central against the loser of Mesa State/Regis, the second and fifth seeds.

Kearney won this tournament in 2007 and 2008 and has won eight straight RMAC tourney games played at Mesa's Suplizio Field.

Loper fans that cannot make the trip to Western Colorado can watch the games via America One. Coverage will begin Thursday at 8:00 p.m. Central and includes all games played Friday and Saturday.
