Box Score Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney men's basketball shot 62 percent from the field to roll past Colorado State-Pueblo,
89-71, Saturday night in Colorado.
The Lopers (11-5, 9-4 RMAC) have won five in a row and are averaging 86 points during the win streak. Mean while the T-Wolves fall to 9-8 (6-7).
Senior reserve forward
Chris Deans (Hemingford) continued his torrid shooting by making all six threes he attempted, and going 10 of 11 overall from the field, to finish with a game-high 27 points.
The 6 of 6 effort ties the school-record for three point percentage as Brian Dunagan also made six threes in six attempts in a 2003 win over Western State. In the last three games, Deans has scored 71 points on 25 of 33 shooting (75.7%), including a 15 of 19 effort from behind the arc.
Both teams made 17 of 31 field goals in the first half (54.8%) and Pueblo managed a 43-41 half time lead. Four minutes into the second half, junior guard
Akeem Morissaint hit a three point to give UNK a 46-45 lead and they never trailed again.
Leading by double digits for the last 9:40, UNK sunk 15 of its 21 (71.4%) of its field goals in the second half. That included a ridiculous 9 of 12 effort from the three point line and 9 of 10 free throw shooting.
For the night, the Lopers made 15 of 22 threes; the 15 makes are just two off the school record.
Besides Deans heroics, Morissaint (Delray Beach, Fla.) tallied 16 thanks to four made triples with starter
Jon Henderson (Salt Lake City, Utah) at 11 points and five rebounds.
Ryan Arel made five of his own threes to lead Pueblo with 15 points.
UNK is at Colorado Christian and Colorado School of Mines next weekend.
