Box Score Kearney, Neb. – Colorado School of Mines junior guard Angie Charchalis scored a game-high 25 points in a
91-77 shootout win over Nebraska-Kearney Saturday night in Golden, Colo.
The Orediggers win a second straight game to improve to 7-14 (6-9 RMAC) while the Lopers (5-15, 5-10 RMAC) are now on a four-game skid.
UNK, which handed Mines an 81-64 loss earlier this year, came in averaging 60 points per game, about three more than the Orediggers.
To reach a season-high point total, Mines shot 53.7% (29 of 54) from the field, including a 9 of 20 effort from the three point line. The 'Diggers then went 24 of 28 at the line.
UNK, having its third highest point total of the winter, made just 39.0% (23 of 59) of its shots but sunk nine threes and went 22 of 26 at the line.
Mines jumped out to a 13-4 lead and kept its lead throughout the first half, going into the locker room ahead 36-31. The 'Diggers then blew the game wide open with a 20-4 run to start the final half that featured two threes by Charchalis and a triple by senior guard Stephanie Fogle.
The Lopers whittled the lead down, trailing 83-76 after two free throws from sophomore
Shelby Zimmerman (Beatrice) with 1:19 to play. But, Mines went 3 of 4 at the line to push its lead back to double digits.
Charchalis went 11 of 12 at the line, and 5 of 12 from the floor, to reach her point total. She also had seven rebounds, three assists and two steals in only 26 minutes of action.
Fogle and reserve post Katie Carty were the other 'Diggers in double digits, each scoring 12.
Zimmerman led the Lopers with a career-high 20 points thanks to 6 of 8 field goal shooting and a 6 of 7 effort at the line. She also had five rebounds and three assists in 25 minutes.
Also, senior guard
Debi Johnson (Elsie) tallied 19 and senior forward Vanessa Leeper Jones (Colo. Springs, Colo.) had 12.
UNK hosts Colorado Mesa and Western State next weekend.
