Box Score 2 Kearney, Neb. – The 5th-ranked Nebraska-Kearney volleyball team roared past Southwest Baptist (-2, -14, -16) and Alabama-Huntsville (-11, -12, -16) Friday afternoon in Bolivar, Mo.
The Lopers (22-2, 8-1) are now riding a four-match win streak.
In the first match of the day against the SBU Bearcats (8-18, 1-8), UNK had its most dominant set in the rally scoring era. The Lopers smashed home 19 kills, and didn't have a single error in 27 swings, to hit .704 while the Bearcats mustered just two points the entire set.
The two points set a new record as UNK held Doane to four points back in 2003 home win. Both of SBU's points came via kills. Overall, they took 32 swings and hit -.062 in the set.
Junior middle
Katie Sokolowski (Kearney Catholic) finished the match with a career-high 19 kills and did so in just 25 attempts with no errors. Her sizzling .760 attack percentage ranks eighth best in school history (minimum 10 kills).
On the outside, senior
Ariel Krolikowski (Grand Island) had 12 kills and hit .414 with senior setter
Jenna Rouzee (Grand Island) having 41 assists, 14 digs, two blocks and two kills.
Team wise, UNK hit a season-best .413 (50-7-104) and dug up 75 balls. Kearney came in leading the MIAA in digs per set at just over 20.
In its final non-conference match of the fall, UNK swept the Chargers (10-13) from the Gulf South Conference by hitting .283 and serving up eight aces.
Krolikowski (12) was the only Loper with a double digit kill total but four others had between five and seven, including junior outside
Ashley Leitner (Lincoln SW). And Sokolowski kept up her efficient offensive pace by hitting a team-high .462 (7-1-13).
Finally, sophomore libero
Liz McGowan (GI Central Catholic) led UNK in aces with four and digs with 12.
Kearney plays at Missouri Southern State tomorrow at 6:30 p.m.
