Katie Sokolowski had another big offensive day to help the 5th-ranked Nebraska-Kearney volleyball team sweep Missouri Southern State (-10, -15, -11) Saturday night in Joplin, Mo.
UNK (23-2, 9-1) has now won five in a row after going 3-0 on this weekend road swing. The Lions, on the other hand, fall to 0-23 (0-11) and have dropped 30 in a row dating back to October 2011.
After hitting .760 vs. Southwest Baptist and .461 against Alabama-Huntsville on Friday, Sokolowski (Kearney Catholic) had 13 kills Saturday with just two errors in 16 attempts, good for a .688 hitting percentage. She's now at .393 for the season.
UNK hit .398 as a team as the Lopers trailed just three times, all in the second set, in the match. Outsides
Ariel Krolikowski (11) and
Ashley Leitner (10) each had double digit kill totals and both hit well over .300.
Defensively, sophomore
Liz McGowan (GI Central Catholic) had 11 digs, senior setter
Jenna Rouzee (GI Northwest) added 10 and Sokolowski had a team-best three blocks. Finally, Rouzee had four of UNK's six service aces.
Kearney hosts Fort Hays State Tuesday night and then Pitt State and Central Oklahoma visit next weekend.
