Veteran Coach Named Lopers Offensive Coordinator

Coach Siegal played at D2 Winona State
Kearney, Neb. – Nebraska-Kearney head football coach Darrell Morris announced today that Andy Siegal is the Lopers new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

He replaces Russ Martin, who left the Lopers in January to become head coach at Colorado Mesa University. Siegal will be at UNK this week prior to the team starting spring workouts on Friday.

"We're excited to have Andy join our staff. He has a ton of coaching experience and has familiarity with the offense we run. It's a good fit," said Morris.

Siegal, an Illinois native and graduate of Division II Winona State (Minn.), has an extensive coaching experience in high school, college and professional football.

Most recently, he was Director of League Development for the World Professional Football League.

His college coaching stops include Division I Southern Mississippi (2009-10), Division II Southern Arkansas (1992-94), Division II Quincy U., Ill. (1992), East Mississippi C.C. (2010-11), College of the Sequoias, Calif. (2005-09) and Dodge City C.C., Kans. (1999-05).

Siegal also was a guest QB coach for the CFL's Toronto Argonauts and was a successful high school head coach in Florida (Venice and Key West).

In 2010, Siegal was offensive coordinator and QB coach for an East Mississippi team that led the nation in passing offense (303 ypg) and made the playoffs for a third season year.
Five years earlier at the Sequoias, he coordinated an offense that ranked number one nationally with all four of his offenses ranking in the top 20. He served in a variety of roles while at Dodge City, including interim head coach and offensive coordinator.  His offense also ranked first in the nation from 2002-04.

For Southern Miss, Siegal did a variety of duties, including assistant offensive line coach and offensive quality control. He was part of a 2009 Eagles team that went 7-6 and advanced to the New Orleans Bowl.

At the beginning of his coaching career, Siegal found him on the defensive side of the ball as he was a linebacker coach at Southern Arkansas, co-defensive coordinator and d-line coach at Quincy, defensive coordinator of the Shockers and linebacker coach for Pasco High (Fla.).

As a head coach, he took Key West to the post season twice and was named the Florida Coaches Association 4A Coach of the Year.  He then moved on to a Venice High program that was 0-29 before his arrival. He promptly led them to three straight postseason appearances and was subsequently named the Florida Coaches Association 5A Coach of the Year.
Besides holding a B.S. in Physical Education from Winona, Siegal also has a Master's degree in Kinesiology from Southern Arkansas.

He was a wrestler and football player at Hamline U. (Minn.) and WSU and began his coaching career as a student assistant at Winona High and at Winona State.

Siegal and his wife, Miriam, have three children; Taylor (14), Austin (12) and Bryant (4).
