Women's Basketball Whips Chadron to End RMAC Era

Box Score Kearney, Neb. – The Nebraska-Kearney women's basketball team finished the 2011-12 season in style as the Lopers led from start to finish in an 84-59 win at Chadron State Saturday night.

UNK ends with an 8-19 (8-14 RMAC) record while the Eagles (8-18, 8-14 RMAC) lose a sixth striaght. The Lopers, now with 698 wins in program history, finish with a 249-77 all-time record in RMAC regular season games.

Getting revenge for a 64-60 loss to the Eagles earlier this year, UNK out rebounded Chadron 45-27, had a 40-10 advantage in points in the paint and shot 49% (31 of 63) from the field.

In their final collegiate games, seniors Lea Ann Jameson (Minden), Debi Johnson (Elsie), Vanessa Leeper Jones (Colo. Springs, Colo.) and Tessa Kreutzer (Loomis) combined for 54 points, 23 rebounds and six assists.

UNK led 7-6 at the 14:21 mark but slowly worked its lead into double figures, going into the locker room ahead 42-28. The Loper advantage got as big as 31 points in the second half as Chadron ended the night 17 of 63 (32%) from the floor.

Leeper Jones ended her career in style with team-highs in points (22) and rebounds (12). This marks her fourth double double of the year and she finishes with 1,284 points and 656 rebounds as Loper.

After having 14 points last Saturday in a loss to Colo.-Colo. Springs, Kreutzer kept up the hot shooting and scored another 14 by making five of six field goals. Making two of UNK's three treys, she also pulled down four rebounds.

Next, Jameson had 11 points and seven rebounds with Johnson having seven points and three assists in 19 minute. Among non-seniors, sophomore Shelby Zimmerman (Beatrice) had seven points, five boards and five assists with sophomore point guard Sarah Hix (Broomfield, Colo.) at a season-best seven points.

Johnson, playing 111 games as a Loper, finishes with 1,432 points, 10th most in school history. She also ranks third in threes made at 195.

In her final collegiate game, former Loper and Kearney native Kaitlin Petri had 13 points, six rebounds and three assists for the Eagles.
