Baseball Swept by Griffons

Eric Rinblom is batting .417 through 7 games
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Kearney, Neb. – The Missouri Western State baseball team scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to win game one, 3-2, and then recorded 12 hits to win the second game, 12-5, over Nebraska-Kearney Sunday afternoon in St. Joseph, Mo.

The Griffons, who won three of the four games this weekend, improve to 4-3 while the Lopers fall to 1-6.

Junior 1b Eric Ringblom (Millard North) recorded an RBI triple, his first three bagger as a Loper, in the top of the seventh in game one to give UNK a 2-1 lead. However, the Lopers left two on base as Western starter Nik Jurdao got a fly out to end the inning.

In the bottom of the seventh, all three Griffons reached via a double, bunt single and another double. The game winner was two-run pinch hit two bagger from Bubba Dotson.

A senior right hander, Jurado went the distance, allowing one earned on four hits and two walks. He also fanned four Lopers. Western had seven hits at the plate, two from center fielder Shawn Egge (2 for 4).

For UNK, Ringblom went 2 for 3 from the cleanup spot and senior Mike Nowak (Omaha Roncalli) worked around five walks to shut out Western for the first 4.1 innings.

The Lopers led the nightcap 1-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth. Not only did Western score three times in that inning but also crossed home plate three times in the fifth and sixth.

Taking advantage of three UNK errors to score four unearned runs, Western saw four different players have two RBI's while starter Mason Queen allowed two runs in 5.1 innings.

UNK recorded 13 hits with four different Lopers having two or more, led by junior Alex Miller (3 for 4, three RBI's.). Miller, one of six pitchers in the game for Kearney, also played center field in the loss.

The Lopers stay on the road again next weekend as they start RMAC play at Colorado Christian.
