Box Score 2 Kearney, Neb. – The Regis University baseball team used a couple of big innings to beat Nebraska-Kearney,
7-6 and
11-9, Saturday afternoon at Memorial Field.
The Rangers, who also won Friday's series opener, improve to 10-9 (5-6 RMAC) while the Lopers fall to 6-13 (5-6 RMAC).
In game one, the Lopers led 2-1 before the Rangers erupted for a five spot in its half of the fifth. Hitting a Grand Slam in Friday's win, left fielder Alex Haag (2 for 3) haunted the Lopers again as he belted a three-run double in the inning.
A key play happed in the bottom of the fifth as the Rangers turned a 3-2 double play with Loper senior short stop
Mike Nowak (2 for 3) being called out a home to end the inning.
After UNK scored twice in the sixth, Regis added an insurance run in the seventh as catcher Nano Jacobson (2 for 4, two RBI's) hit a two out, run scoring single to left center.
The Lopers tried to rally as junior right fielder
Brian Wuest (Prosper, Texas) hit a two-run dinger in the bottom of the seventh. However, Hunter Aronson got a ground out to earn his second save.

Alex Miller (Millard West) and junior third baseman
Chase Saxton (Millard West) each had two hits in the set back.
Wuest (2 for 4) erased a 3-2 deficit in the second game when he launched another ball over the right field wall. The three-run shot, coming in the second, gave the Lopers the lead but the Rangers scored the next eight runs to build an 11-5 cushion.
Scoring five in the top of the seventh, Regis was led by first baseman Jon Shoutta (2 for 3, two runs, three RBI's) and lead off hitter Bob Terry (1 for 4, three RBI's).
UNK rallied once again, scoring four times in the bottom of the seventh on three hits and a Regis error. Aronson, with a runner at first, got a called third strike to end the day's action.
Besides Wuest, junior first baseman
Eric Ringblom (Millard North) went 2 for 3 for the Lopers.
The series wraps up Sunday with a nine inning game staring at noon.
