Behind Pitchers, Mines Sweeps Softball

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Kearney, Neb. – The Colorado School of Mines Orediggers got strong pitching performances from juniors Kelly Unkrich and Ashley Goletz to sweep a double header from Nebraska-Kearney, 10-5 and 6-0, Sunday afternoon at Dryden Park.

The preseason favorite in the RMAC, Mines bounces back from a sweep by the Lopers (8-12, 5-9 RMAC) Saturday to improve to 11-18 (8-10 RMAC).

In game one, Unkrich earned her sixth win by allowing one earned run over 6.2 innings. Fanning five and walking one, she gave up eight hits with UNK taking advantage of two errors to score four times off freshman Kristen Prudhomme in the bottom of the sixth.

Offensively for Mines, leadoff hitter Macy Jones went 3 for 5, first baseman Sarah Lustgraaf hit a three-run homer in a six run third and nine hole hitter Allysia Cisneros went 4 for 4 with two runs scored.

Three different Lopers had two hits in the setback, including lead off hitter Austin Wilson (2 for 3, one run, two RBI's).

Goletz saw her record improve to 5-7 as she tossed a three-hit complete game shut out in the series finale. Allowing three singles, she walked just one and struck out three.

Center fielder Kamee Vessey, a transfer from Division I South Alabama, hit her 11th homer of the season, a two-run shot in the fifth, to pace the offense.

UNK starts a 14-game road trip Wednesday at Metro State
