Box Score 2 Kearney, Neb. – Senior second baseman Al Seberger hit three home runs and Nebraska-Kearney got two complete games on the mound to sweep a double header at Black Hills State,
5-4 and
10-5, Saturday in Spearfish, S.D.
The Lopers improve to 13-17 (10-12 RMAC) while the Yellowjackets, a first-year Division II program, fall to 5-24 (4-18 RMAC).
In game one, UNK needed some dramatics to pull out the victory. Trailing 4-2 heading into the top of the seventh, senior center fielder
Austin Wilson (McCook) started a one out rally by reaching thanks to an error.
Freshman short stop
Mallory Noakes (Lincoln SW) followed with an RBI double and then Seberger (2 for 4, one run, three RBI's) belted her sixth homer of the year to put the Lopers on top.
Senior Kiristie Hiatt (McCook) finished off Black Hills by allowing one base runner in the bottom of the seventh. She improved to 8-8 by tossing an eight-hit complete game. Walking only one, Hiatt fanned four and blanked the 'Jackets over the final two innings.
In game two, UNK got another strong effort on the hill as Papillion junior
Becky Dunn (5-6) gave up 15 hits but allowed only five runs. Fanning eight and walking none, Dunn saw Black Hills strand nine runners.
Offensively, the Lopers scored three times in the third, fifth and seventh innings. Noakes (4 for 5, one run), Seberger (2 for 3, two runs, four RBI's) and senior 1b
Dani Mowinkel (2 for 4, one run, three RBI's) provided the pop.
Of note, Seberger went deep in the third and fifth innings, pushing her career homer total to 20. That moves into ninth place on the UNK career list, past
Jessie Thomas ('11) and Ashley Guyle ('09), who are tied for 10th with 19 a piece.
The two teams play a double header Sunday at 12:00 p.m. Central.
