Box Score Kearney, Neb. – Senior southpaw
Mike Loseke tossed a six-hit complete game shut out to power Nebraska-Kearney over Metro State, 9-0, Friday night at Memorial Field.
Thanks to Loseke's gem, the Lopers (11-22, 10-15 RMAC) stop a six-game losing streak. Mean while, the Roadrunners fall to 10-21 (7-18 RMAC).
Earning his second win of the season, Loseke (Arvada, Colo.) becomes the first Loper to throw a complete game shutout since Jared Loschen held Regis to three hits in a 4-0 win on May 1st, 2009.
Fanning six and walking five, Loseke only had trouble with Metro's number two hitter, left fielder Alex Schrupp (3 for 4). Loseke saw his defense turn two double plays and he never allowed the 'Runners a timely hit as they left 11 on base. That included the top of the eighth when Metro struck out and flew out with the bases loaded.
At the plate, the Lopers scored a single run in the second, two more in the third and then busted things open with a five-run sixth.
Pounding out 13 hits off of three different pitchers, UNK saw its top two hitters in the lineup, center fielder
Reid Carter (Castle Rock, Colo.) and left fielder
Alex Miller (Millard West), go a combined 6 for 10 with three runs and an RBI. All nine Loper starters reached base at least once with eight recording at hit.
Weather permitting, the two teams will play a double header Saturday starting at 1:00 p.m.
