Box Score 2 Kearney, Neb. – Junior
Brian Wuest drove in six runs in game one and junior
Brandon Pacheco drove in three runs in the nightcap as Nebraska-Kearney swept a double header from Colorado Christian, 16-4 and 9-8, Saturday afternoon at Memorial Field.
These were the Lopers final home games of the 2012 season. UNK (17-24, 16-16 RMAC) went 8-0 against the Cougars (9-34, 6-27 RMAC) this season by a combined score of 102-38.
The early game was decided early on as Kearney scored four in the first, two in the second and four more in the third. Finishing with 19 hits, and also drawing five walks, UNK had five different players have multi-hit efforts.
A right fielder from Prosper, Texas, Wuest (3 for 4, three runs) belted homers in the second and seventh innings to push his team-leading total to 10.
Next, junior LF
Tommy Barnes (Perry Hall, Md.) hit a three-run triple in the first to highlight a 3 for 5 effort with senior 3b
Mike Nowak (Omaha Roncalli) going 2 for 5 with three RBI's from the nine hole.
On the mound, sophomore
Ethan Poulsen (Longmont, Colo.) had another strong start, allowing three earned runs in five full innings to record his second win. Lefty
Mannie Reinsch (Kearney Catholic) earned a save by throwing four scoreless innings with four K's and one walk.
The Lopers took advantage of an errant throw in the bottom of the fourth in game two to score eight runs and erase a 2-1 deficit.
Had Christian recorded a solid throw, they likely would've turned two and gotten out of the inning with the lead. Instead, Pacheco (3 for 4, two runs) had one of the four hits in the inning, a two-run single to left center. He then scored on a two-run single by redshirt freshman
Reid Carter (2 for 2).
The Cougars, however, didn't go down quietly. Down 9-3, Christian had five hits in the top of the seventh to score five runs and have the potential tying run reach third base. But, senior
Yancy Birch (Grand Junction, Colo.) managed to get a pop up to right to end the game.
Redshirt freshman
Michael Hahn (Fremont) earned his second win of the year by allowing two earned in two innings.
UNK finishes up the regular season on the road by going to New Mexico Highlands next weekend and then visiting Regis.
